Train Park | Shafter, CA
WSLA and landscape architect Jim Stebbins (with ISI) prepared the concept and construction drawings for this 2.5-acre train themed park to provide a variety of spaces in which the neighborhood can play and relax. Whether you discover areas to jump from boulder to boulder in a “nature play” area, pretend you are in a train in the play ground, roll down sloped lawn areas, invent games with your friends in the large lawn bowl area or quietly play chess in the central plaza, the neighborhood can fill the park and still have a sense that you or your friends have the park to yourselves.
There is a natural flow from one unique space to another creating a sense of excitement as to what you get to experience next.
Year-round there is a botanical display of color and texture contrast, blades of tall grasses blowing in the wind and trees with canopies to keep you cool during the hot summer days or warm you during the cold days when the leaves have fallen to the ground letting the winter sun’s warmth through.
